In fewer cases there can be some audio commentary too.

Usually a truehd and/or dts-hd track, a dts track, and an ac3 640k, plus sometimes some visually impaired audio tracks. And often times, there are multiple English tracks (assuming you want English). When you rip the files with MakeMKV, you can uncheck the other languages. What’s your process for ripping your movies? Any program recommendations?

iso or is there a better program? Or can I get an exact copy with what I have from MakeMKV? How do I determine which files are duplicate and which aren’t with MakeMKV?Ĭan I have MakeMKV rip to. If I make copies of my discs, would the MKV files be sufficient or should I find something to burn ISO files for future burning? If a disc scratches I’d like to be able to replace it. What is your process for ripping discs? What I do seems similar to what I read here, but if there are any other programs or alternatives that might be good.

How would I choose which 80 GB MKV file to keep?

With these movie rips there are a lot of files that are identical sizes and I honestly have no idea which ones to keep. Upgrading was always in the future but it’s filling fast. Some of my biggest concerns are I literally just bought a Synology NAS with two 8TB WD Gold drives in raid 1 which are over half full. I know Plex exists but I’m not sure how much I trust the program considering I’ve read on different privacy concerns with their media server.

Once I’m done it’s off to the TV app on my Mac and right to my AppleTV go streaming. Then filebot for renaming TV Episodes and finally subler for artwork. Output files are around 6GB which is roughly a tenth of the input (50-90 for the main feature). Handbrake then converts the files using the “Apple 2160p60 4K HVEC Surround” preset. Takes over an hour and puts out anywhere between 70-300 GB worth of files. I have a 4K compatible drive with custom firmware. I’ve run about 2.5 TB of MKV files and I’m halfway through what I own. I’ve recently got into 4K Blu Ray and I have an excessively large collection for only buying my first disc after the start of the new year.
